Bilbao Airport is one of the most outstanding expressions of renewal and new strength in the city of Bilbao. It is located 12 kilometres from the capital of the Biscay province.

The last few years have seen Bilbao Airport dealing effectively with constant traffic growth, primarily domestic, but with an increasingly international dimension too, thanks to its good connecting flights to the continent’s major hub airports and main tourist cities and business centres.

With over 50 destinations, Bilbao Airport serves its entire area of influence with a renewed infrastructure for commercial services, with shops adapted to typical passenger profiles and a restaurant area with brands recognised worldwide, while staying true to Basque gastronomy. In addition, plans are under way to expand its passport control area, where EU passengers will be able to use new automated ID-readers.

Opportunities for airlines

  • Bilbao is a dynamic city of services in a continuous process of social, economic and aesthetic revitalisation.
  • It boasts important tourist attractions, including architectural buildings such as the Guggenheim Museum designed by Frank Gehry, the metro network designed by Norman Foster and the city's Airport, designed by Santiago Calatrava.
  • La Semana Grande (The Great Week). Bilbao's main festival, held in the month of August. The main celebrations include free music concerts, street theatre and fireworks performances.
  • The new Basque cuisine, radically original in form but with a solid Basque base, and the numerous tapas bars serving a fresh image of typical Basque “pintxos”.
