Discover the airport

Almeria Airport plays one of the most important roles in the development of the province's tourist and business potential.

Located at the centre of the bay of Almeria and eight kilometres from the city, it enjoys excellent communications with the province's other tourist destinations, such as Cabo de Gata, Aguadulce, Roquetas de Mar, El Ejido and Mojacar.

During the 1990s, Almería airport did not stop growing until reaching almost one million passengers in 2000. To adapt to this new demand, the passenger terminal was refurbished in 1995, the new cargo terminal was opened in 2002 and the new departures building came into operation in 2009.

  • Almería has great tourist attractions such as Cabo de Gata, a spectacular natural park and the largest land-maritime natural reserve in the Western European Mediterranean.
  • It has infrastructures dedicated to the tourist industry such as a number of golf courses, leisure parks, and active tourism companies, all in addition to a wide range of hotels.
  • In terms of business, Almería is known as Europe's vegetable garden and its agricultural industry is a sector leader. This development is also accompanied by a variety of auxiliary industries, events, agricultural fairs, and, overall, a significant level of economic activity.
  • The Tabernas desert, famous for being the filming location of several Westerns, is one of the most interesting geological landscapes in Europe. Other genres of both national and international productions have been filmed here more recently.
