The airports in Aena’s network handled over 25.7 million passengers in June, 5.1% more than in the same month in 2017.
25,744,475 passengers went through the airports in Aena’s network in June. 18,454,976 of them were on international flights, 4% more than in the same period in 2017, and 7,219,533 on domestic flights, up by 8.1%.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport had the highest number of passengers in June at 5,079,072, which is a 7% increase over the same month in 2017. It is followed by Barcelona-El Prat, with 4,809,324 (+4.9%); Palma de Mallorca, with 3,772,830 (+3.8%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 1,930,866 (+1.2%); Alicante-Elche, with 1,414,301 (+0.9%); Ibiza, with 1,163,990 (+2.9%) and Gran Canaria, with 985,772 (+7%).
In the first half of the year from January to June, passenger traffic in the airports in Aena’s network grew by 6.8% up to 121,068,026 travellers.
Operations
As for the number of operations, there were 219,180 aircraft movements in Aena’s airport network in June, 5.9% more than in the same month in the previous year.
The airport with the highest number of movements during this period was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 35,566 flights (+3.3%), followed by Barcelona-El Prat, with 31,330 (+2.4%); Palma de Mallorca, with 27,033 (+6.8%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 13,864 (+2.3%); Ibiza, with 10,360 (+2.7%); Gran Canaria, with 10,023 (+17.1%) and Alicante-Elche, with 9,473 (-1.3%).
In the first half of the year, the number of operations in the airports in Aena’s network grew by 6.1% up to 1,073,712 movements.
Freight
In June 78,828 tons of freight were carried which is, a 10.2% increase compared to the same period of 2017.
In June, the four airports with the highest freight traffic were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with almost 41,283 tons (+8%); Barcelona-El Prat with almost 14,864 tons (+19.6%); Zaragoza with 9,512 tons (+24.2%) and Vitoria with 5,294 tons (-2.5%).
From January to June, airports in Aena’s network as a whole handled 481,672 tons of freight, up by 13.3% over the same months in 2017.
