Commitment to responsible and sustainable water consumption

Aena remains committed to promoting responsible and sustainable water consumption in order to make an effective contribution to the fight against the impact of climate change and to preserving natural resources, even though the water deficit has been overcome in the municipalities in which Reus Airport is located.

In fact, Aena is particularly active in taking measures to overcome drought situations, as in the last period when the following actions were applied:

  • Survival drip irrigation.

  • Suppression of the use of water hose for cleaning tasks of elements such as roads, façades or vehicles.

  • Installation of automated elements to save water in the toilets.

  • Awareness-raising measures among personnel and users for responsible water use.

  • Coordination with Aigües de Reus given the potential use of water wells located within the airport grounds.

Commitment to saving water and responsible consumption

Aena's commitment to reducing consumption of this valuable resource has given rise to a strategic plan for water management at the airports. In this regard, the company’s 2021-2030 Sustainability Strategy has a programme specifically for an efficient water footprint.
