Aviator
A consortium led by the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA) in which AENA participates as an associated company.
The project aims to adopt an approach of measuring, modelling and assessing relevant aircraft engine emissions, as well as how they impact on air quality in different climatic conditions. Particle and gas emissions from engines will therefore be measured in a test cell and the wing of an aircraft in service to determine the evolution of the pollutant wake from the engine and the APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) exhaust, and will be deployed with a network of measurement sensors. This will provide a better understanding of the primary pollutants emitted and is especially interesting for assessing air quality in the environment.
Overall, results obtained in the tests conducted in various scenarios will serve to better integrate the air sector in its environment.
The project started in June 2019 and ended in May 2023.

Imhotep
Integrated multimodal airport operations for efficient passenger flow management.
A research project funded by SESAR 2020 Exploratory Research. The goal is to develop a concept of operations and a set of data analysis methods, predictive models and decision support tools that allow information sharing, common situational awareness and real‑time collaborative decision-making between airports and ground transport stakeholders.
The project started in June 2020 and ended in November 2022.

Asprid
Airport system protection from intruding drones.
A research project funded by SESAR 2020 Exploratory Research. The goal is to address the problem of protecting airport operations from drone intrusion (careless or malicious) under an operationally oriented approach. The project proposes investigating airport vulnerability under the different types of threat and possible forms of response, as well as studying interrelations between all aspects that involve different scenarios
The project started in November 2020 and ended in November 2022.

Praetorian
Protection of critical infrastructures from combined cyber and physical threats.
An initiative co-funded by the European Commission Horizon 2020 programme, which has united 23 partners from seven countries with the common goal of increasing the security and resilience of critical European infrastructures, facilitating coordinated protection against physical, cyber or combined threats. This project will develop a set of specific tools in order to provide real-time information to facilitate decision making.
The project started in June 2021 and ended in September 2023.
