Humanitarian aid and volunteering
foster children received at Malaga, Alicante-Elche and Gran Canaria airports
Through this programme airports, in collaboration with local associations, facilitate the arrival and return of Saharan children in Summer. The Málaga-Costa del Sol airport, for instance, has been collaborating with the Federación Andaluza de Asociaciones Solidarias con el Sáhara ( Andalusian Federation of Sahara Solidarity associations) and the Asociaciones de Amistad con el Pueblo Saharaui (Frendship Associations with Saharan People) for more than 20 years making it easier for over 900 children to arrive. In turn, more than 740 Saharan children have arrived to the airports of Alicante-Elche and Gran Canaria.
This is how Aena is contributing to offer these children the chance to enjoy the comforts they do not have at the refugee camps where they live, apart from a healthy diet and appropriate medical attention.
We see to health emergency flights, ambulance flights and firefighting actions. Furthermore, we collaborate with the National Transplant Organisation (ONT) in transplanting.
