The airports in Aena’s network handled over 18.3 million passengers in November, 3.6% more than in the same month in 2018. The total number of travellers came to precisely 18,349,342, of which 18,297,015 were commercial passengers with 11,836,146 on international flights, 3.4% more than in November 2018, and 6,460,869 on domestic flights, up by 4.1%.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport had the highest number of passengers in November at 4,779,867, which is a 5.3% increase over the same month in 2018. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 3,674,586 (6.7% more); Gran Canaria, with 1,191,079 (+0.8%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 1,169,841 (+1.7%); Palma de Mallorca, with 1,002,869 (-1.2%); Tenerife Sur, with 982,064 (1.4% less); and Alicante-Elche, with 934,652 (+4.8%).
Between January and November 2019 passenger traffic rose by 4.4% with a total of 256,990,394 passengers going through the airports in Aena’s network.
Operations
As for the number of operations, there were 164,851 aircraft movements in Aena’s airport network in November, 0.4% less than in the same month in the previous year.
The airport with the highest number of movements was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with a total of 33,929 (+2.8%), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 24,938 flights (+5%); Gran Canaria with 10,806 (-7.3%); Málaga-Costa del Sol with 9,003 (-3.6%); Palma de Mallorca with 8,813 (-10.4%); Alicante-Elche with 6,673 (+0.5%); and Tenerife Sur with 6,205 (-6%).
Between January and November the airports in Aena’s network operated 2,198,017 aircraft for departures and arrivals which is a 2.9% rise over the same period in the previous year.
Freight
Last month 103,107 tons of freight were carried which is a 12.1% increase compared to November 2018.
The four airports with the highest freight traffic were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 53,241 tons (+13.5%); Zaragoza with 20,911 tons (+27.1%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 16,111 tons (+6.6%); and Vitoria with 5,666 tons (+0.3%).
From January to November 973,183 tons of freight were handled in the airports in Aena’s network, which means 4.8% growth compared to the same period in 2018.
