Airlines have scheduled 113.2 million seats in Aena network airports for the winter season, which is a 0.5% rise compared to the number available in the same period in the previous year. The number of scheduled movements is also up by 0.2% to stand at just over 677,000 commercial operations.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airports have maintained their growth in the number of seats scheduled for winter at more than 30.1 million (+3.1%) in Madrid and 23.3 million (+4.4%) in Barcelona.
They are followed in the number of seats on offer by Gran Canaria Airport with 7.2 million, 4.7% fewer; Málaga-Costa del Sol with 6.8 million scheduled seats, 2.3% fewer; Palma de Mallorca with 6.4 million, 6.6% fewer; Tenerife Sur with 5.4 million, 8.3% fewer; Alicante with 5.3 million, 2.6% more; Valencia with 3.7 million, 2.4% more; and Seville with 3.5 million, 5.5% more.
The scheduling for seats and movements in the winter season 2019-2020 is subject to change by airlines.
In terms of the percentage increases in the number of seats offered by airlines in the network’s airports, the list is led by Badajoz (30.9%, with 58,400 seats), Melilla (20.6%, with 228,200 seats), Pamplona (19.3%, with 133,448 seats), Asturias (15.2%, with close to 685,400 seats) and A Coruña (10.6%, with 721,600 seats).
The offer of seats in the domestic market is up overall by 1.1% with about 41 million seats on flights between Spanish airports.
Long-haul destinations are on the rise
Turning to other geographical areas, long-haul destinations are on the rise. There is a big increase in the offering for Latin America which is up by 15.9% with nearly 4,939,000 seats scheduled for the 2019-2020 winter season.
It is followed by the Middle East with an 11.8% increase in seats available (more than 2,131,000 seats) and North America at 10.2% (more than 1,955,000 seats).
As for other parts of the world, the airlines have scheduled over 721,280 seats with Asia Pacific, an 8.4% rise, and more than 2,291,700 with Africa, up by 7.5%. Over 60 million seats are on offer for the European market, down by 1.9%.
After Spain, the countries where airlines are making available the largest number of seats for the winter season 2019-2020 are the United Kingdom with around 14 million (-2.6%); Germany with almost 9.8 million (-11.8%); Italy with over 6.7 million (+1.6%), and France with over 5.6 million (5.9%).
