Airlines schedule another record number of seats for the winter season after a historic summer at airports
Airlines will offer another record number of seats for the winter season from 26 October 2025 until 28 March 2026 at Aena's Spanish airports. According to the data as of 31 August 2025, airlines have scheduled 2.1% more seats, a record number. This schedule is subject to changes made by the airlines during the season.

June-August, best-ever period for passengers, operations and cargo
Pending the final data for August which will be released in detail in the coming days, Aena reports that the airports of its network in Spain have closed the main summer months (June, July and August) without incidents, and with high service quality levels. This has been possible due to the measures put in place by Aena at the start of the season, as well as the prior planning of summer reinforcements, keeping in mind the foreseeable increase in demand. And all of this with an increase in overall passenger satisfaction, according to validated surveys.

Aena's Spanish airports have handled over 89 million passengers between 1st June and 24th August, 3.3% more than in the same
period last year; 722,637 operations, an increase of 3.8%; and 306,817,234 kg of total commercial cargo, an increase of 6.0%.

The main markets continue their upward trend this summer. Of note were the United Kingdom with an increase of +3.6%; Germany, +0.4%; Italy, +7.0%; and France with +1.3%.

The reinforcement measures coordinated by Aena have been tailored to the requirements and types of traffic at each airport and focus on key aspects such as security (especially at passenger controls), public information services, cleaning, IT and electromechanical service operations (baggage handling, jet bridges, etc.), and coordination with airlines, tour operators and ground handling companies.

To this must be added other aspects such as regulating traffic at access points and car parks in collaboration with the local police, taxi stands, work schedules to avoid interference in operations or reinforcing catering operators.

All of these measures are carried out in collaboration with the airlines, handling agents, commercial operations, the State Security Forces and the local police.

Competitive tariffs and investments
The combination of high quality levels and record traffic is the result of an efficient airport model that also offers airlines the most competitive charges in Europe. Airport charges will be updated by 68 cents per passenger from March 2026 onwards.

In July, Aena's Board of Directors approved the airport charges applicable for the fiscal year 2026, establishing a Maximum Annual Applicable Revenue for the coming year of 11.03 euros per passenger, following review by the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC). Applying the legally established mathematical formula, this entails an increase of 68 cents per passenger compared to 2025. Of this increase, 45 cents are due to arrears from 2024 that have not been recovered, and of the remaining 23 cents, 17 cents are the result of applying the application of the airport charges update index, declared applicable by the CNMC in its Resolution dated 10 July 2025.

Aena’s pricing model allows it to make the investments that are required in order to accommodate future demand with high levels of quality and safety. Aena is in the process of finalising its largest investment plan for airports within the last two decades, so that its infrastructures may continue to offer the best quality, keeping in mind the expected increase in demand.

It is worth remembering that Aena's airport charges are extremely competitive and well below those of comparable European operators. Moreover, Aena’s airport charges are not a relevant factor in air ticket pricing and these 68 euro cents are a residual element within the total price of the tourist package (flight, accommodation, tourist taxes, etc.).
