The airports of the Aena Group (comprising the 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) closed the month of August 2025 with 38,994,561 passengers, 4% more than in the same month of 2024; they handled 312,165 aircraft movements, 0.9% more than in 2024; and they transported 123,718 tonnes of cargo, 6.3% more than last year.
In cumulative terms, from January to August, 258,365,327 passengers have passed through Aena Group airports (4.3% more than in 2024); 2,199,830 aircraft movements were recorded (+2.4%); and 967,286 tonnes of freight were transported, 6.5% more than in the same period in 2024.
Aena Airports in Spain
The airports of the Aena network in Spain closed August with 33,327,702 passengers, 3.8% more than in the same month in 2024; they handled 262,001 aircraft movements, 3.1% more than in 2024; and they transported 110,076 tonnes of freight, up 5.4% on August of last year.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in August with 6,243,704, a growth of 2.8% compared to the same month in 2024. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 5,673,319 (+4.8% compared to 2024); Palma de Mallorca, with 4,700,495 (+2.4%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,862,372 (+7.9%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 2,098,522 (+6.9%); Ibiza, with 1,481,444 (+1.1%) Gran Canaria, with 1,294,008 (+6.2%); Valencia, with 1,180,047 (+5.5%) and Tenerife Sur, with 1,110,732 passengers (+1.1%).
Last month saw an all-time high in passenger numbers within the Aena network as a whole and at 10 of the network's airports: Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Valencia, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Menorca, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Melilla and La Gomera.
It was also the best month of August in terms of passenger numbers both within the network as a whole and at 21 airports: Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Ibiza, Gran Canaria, Valencia, Tenerife Sur, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Sevilla, Menorca, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Bilbao, Fuerteventura, Asturias, La Palma, Melilla, La Gomera, Córdoba and the heliport of Ceuta.
In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in August was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 37,189 (+1.6% compared to 2024), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 33,296 flights (+3.7%); Palma de Mallorca, with 31,453 (+1.7%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 19,286 (+6.6%); Ibiza, with 12,967 (+2.2%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 12,593 (+5.4%) and Gran Canaria, with 11,381 landings and take-offs (+1.5%).
In the month of August 2025, four airports have witnessed all-time highs with regard to operations: Palma de Mallorca, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Melilla and El Hierro. It was also the best August at 13 infrastructures: Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Gran Canaria, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Fuerteventura, Jerez, Federico García Lorca Granada-Jaén, Melilla, El Hierro and Logroño.
With regard to freight traffic, in August 2025, the airport with the highest cargo volume was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 67,802 tonnes, 11.4% more than in August 2024. It was followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, which recorded 16,210 tonnes (+9.2%); Zaragoza, with 15,172 tonnes (-14.7%) and Vitoria, with 4,725 tonnes (-3%). It was the best month of August in terms of cargo within the network as a whole, as well as at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas and Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airports.
Between January and August 2025, 216,695,264 passengers have passed through Aena airports in Spain (4.1% more than in 2024); 1,811,174 aircraft movements were handled (4.3%); and 862,255 tonnes of freight were transported, 5.7% more than in the first eight months of the previous year.
Aena Brasil Airports
The 17 airports of Aena Brasil reached 3,859,488 passengers last August, 5.3% more than in the same month in 2024. 37,544 aircraft movements were carried out, a decrease of 12.6% compared to the same month in 2024, and 11,097 tonnes of freight were transported, up 16.7% compared to the same month last year.
The group of six ANB airports (1) closed the month of August with 1,402,595 passengers (+5.4%). Recife Airport reached 834,285 passengers (+2.7%). There were 12,267 flights (-9.5%), of which Recife managed 6,786 (-13.7%). And 5,764 tonnes of freight were moved (+16.2%), of which 4,300 tonnes corresponded to Recife Airport (+10%).
The BOAB group of eleven airports (2) recorded 2,456,893 passengers in August (+5.2% over the same month in 2024). Among them, Congonhas Airport stands out with 2,079,506 passengers (+6.5%). A total of 25,277 flights were handled (-14%), of which 18,118 (-10.2%) were at São Paulo Airport. And 5,333 tonnes of freight (+17.2%) were transported; 4,685 tonnes were handled at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo; 28.4% more than in the same month of the previous year.
Between January and August 2025, 29,814,865 passengers passed through Aena airports in Brazil (+5.6%); 297,935 operations were recorded (-7.5%); and 85,114 tonnes of freight were transported, 18.3% more than in the same period in 2024.
London Luton Airport
During the month of August, 1,807,371 passengers (3) were recorded at London Luton Airport, 5.1% more than in the same month in 2024. 12,620 aircraft movements were handled (+3.9%) and 2,545 tonnes of freight(4) were transported, 2.5% more than in August 2024.
Between January and August 2025, 11,855,198 passengers (3) were recorded (+5%), 90,721 aircraft movements were handled (+2.1%) and 19,917 tonnes of freight (4) were transported (-3.4%).
