The airports of the Aena Group (comprising the 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) closed the month of April 2026 with 33,494,009 passengers, 3.6% more than in the same month in 2025; they handled 290,393 aircraft movements, 5.6% more than in 2025; and transported 125,808 tonnes of freight, 5% more than in the same month of last year.
In cumulative terms up to April 2026, 114,757,924 passengers passed through Aena Group airports (3.7% more than in 2025); 994,719 aircraft movements were recorded (+2.5%); and 489,223 tonnes of freight were transported, 4.8% more than in the same period of 2025. Traffic in the first four months of the year has benefited from a shift in passenger numbers from rail travel (following the train accident on 18 January).
Aena Airports in Spain
The airports of the Aena network in Spain have closed April with 28,284,768 passengers, 3.7% more than in the same month of 2025, which nevertheless, implies a growth lower than the 6.3% recorded between April 2025 and April 2024. In addition, 242,424 aircraft movements were handled in April, 6.7% more than in April 2025; and 112,884 tonnes of freight were transported, 5.3% more than in April last year.
At 5,776,833 passengers, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in April, representing a growth of 3.3% compared to this month last year. This is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 5,103,478 (+4.1% compared to 2025); Palma de Mallorca, with 3,089,279 (+2.6%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,613,939 (+9.5%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,921,861 (+10.9%); Gran Canaria, with 1,310,395 (-2.8%); Valencia, with 1,150,985 passengers (10.7% more than in April 2025); and Tenerife Sur, with 1,063,254 (-8.2%).
In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in April was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 37,586 (+7% compared to 2025), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 32,057 flights (+3.9%); Palma de Mallorca, with 22,699 (+0.7%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 17,681 (+6.7%); Gran Canaria, with 12,160 (+0.5%) and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 12,074 landings and take-offs (+10.9%).
With regard to freight traffic, the airport with the highest cargo volume was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 65,851 tonnes, 0.4% more than in the same month of 2025. It is followed by Zaragoza Airport, with 17,724 tonnes (+28.4%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, with 17,151 tonnes (+9%); and Vitoria, with 5,868 tonnes (+6.1%).
From January to April 2026, 93,915,918 passengers have passed through Aena airports in Spain (3.3% more than in 2025); 807,211 aircraft movements were recorded (+3.1%) and 438,810 tonnes of freight were transported, 5.4% more than in the same period of 2025.
Aena Brasil Airports
The 17 airports of Aena Brasil reached 3,663,113 passengers last April, 3% more than in the same month in 2025. 36,273 aircraft movements were carried out, a figure that remains unchanged compared to the same month in 2025, and 10,447 tonnes of freight were transported, up 3.7% compared to the same month last year.
The group of six ANB airports(1) closed the month of April with 1,318,054 passengers (+4%). Among them, Recife Airport stands out with 780,364 passengers (+3.2%). There were 12,169 flights (+3.1%), of which Recife managed 6,558 (-2.2%). And 5,365 tonnes of freight were moved (+1.4%), of which 3,889 tonnes corresponded to Recife Airport (-11.5%).
The BOAB group of eleven airports(2) recorded 2,345,059 passengers in April (+2.4% over the same month of 2025). Among them, Congonhas Airport stands out with 2,012,524 passengers (+4%). A total of 24,104 flights were handled (-1.4%), of which 17,431 were at São Paulo airport (no changes compared to April 2025). And 5,082 tonnes of freight were transported (+6.3%). At Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, 4,425 tonnes were handled, 5.8% more than in the same month of the previous year.
Between January and April 2026, 15,569,849 passengers passed through Aena airports in Brazil (+6.4%); 147,194 aircraft movements were recorded (unchanged from the first four months of the previous year); and 44,501 tonnes of freight were transported, +9.1% more than in the same period of 2025.
London Luton Airport
During the month of April, 1,546,128 passengers(3) passed through London Luton Airport's facilities, 2.5% more than in the same month of 2025. 11,696 aircraft movements were carried out (+2.4%) and 2,476 tonnes of freight(4) were transported, 1.3% more than in 2025.
Up to the fourth month of 2026, 5,272,157 passengers(3) were recorded (+2.8%), 40,314 aircraft movements were handled (+0.2%) and 5,912 tonnes of freight (4) were transported (-38.2%). The decrease in freight traffic is due to the night-time closure of the runway for resurfacing works.
