In the context of the Single European Sky initiative, Aena is participating in the SESAR Programme (Single European Sky ATM Research), which is the response of the aeronautical community (users, service providers, airports, industry, regulators, military authorities, pilots, controllers, research centres, etc.) defining the R&D programme to modernise air traffic control in Europe.
SESAR WAVE 2
A European Community air transport project entrusted with the development and implementation of the future common air traffic control system. It aims to implement a high-performance European ATM network stemming from the need to create an integrated vision of the evolution of the European traffic control system.
SESAR DEPLOYMENT
Aena participates in synchronising the implementation and deployment of SESAR projects at Airports.
The SESAR Programme deployment phase began in December 2014 when the European Commission appointed the consortium formed by members of the A6 and airline and airport associations, SESAR Deployment Alliance (SDA), as SESAR Deployment Manager (SDM).
Under the SESAR Deployment Programme, two projects are currently underway: ACADIA (Acceleration of Aeronautical Digital Information Availability) and BEACON.

OPERA
Boosting safe, sustainable and automated UAM through the development and testing of 3 vehicles in real environments, accelerating their implementation thanks to the participation of various actors and considering regulatory and social aspects.
Consortium of 12 organisations from the airport, air navigation and VTOL sectors. The project started in April 2023 and has a duration of 36 months.

EUREKA
Landing, take-off and management process at air taxi landing sites, developing standards and solutions to accelerate the take-off of urban air mobility in Europe. Four SESAR solutions are developed in TRL 7, these solutions are essential elements of a process necessary for the integration of airspace port operations.
Consortium of 20 organisations from the airport, air navigation and VTOL sectors. The project started in June 2023 and has a duration of 36 months.
