What is prohibited in checked luggage?

Prohibited products

  • Explosives (including detonators, fuses, grenades, mines and pyrotechnic products).
  • Gases: propane, butane (including small camping gas bottles).
  • Flammable liquids (including petrol and methanol, paints, solvents, glues and charges for lighters).
  • Solid flammable or reactive substances (including magnesium, matches and lighters, fireworks and flares).
  • Oxidants and organic peroxides (like bleaches and abrasive substances).
  • Toxic or infectious substances (rat poisons, infected blood).
  • Radioactive material (including isotopes for medical or commercial use).
  • Corrosive substances (such as mercury and car batteries).
  • Parts of an engine which have contained fuel.
  • Electronic cigarettes.
  • Loose lithium batteries (find more information here).

What items are prohibited in hand luggage?

Prohibited products

  • Firearms and weapons in general: if you are going to transport weapons, you need authorisation. Please refer to the weapons check-in section for information on how to obtain it.
  • Devices that fire projectiles.
  • Devices to stun or immobilise.
  • Objects with a sharp point or a cutting edge.
  • Blunt instruments.
  • Tools which can cause serious injuries.
  • Flammable, explosive and incendiary substances and devices.
  • Chemical and toxic substances.

Important

  • For passenger security reasons, passengers should not check in or transport luggage for strangers.
  • Security staff may deny access to the boarding area and the aeroplane cabin to any passenger in possession of an article which, although not considered prohibited, arouses their suspicions.
  • Bear in mind that these items may be affected by more than one regulation (airport security, transport without risk of dangerous goods, etc.). In this case, the most restrictive regulation applies.
