The airports of the Aena network registered in February more than 16.2 million passengers, 6.4% more

The airports in Aena’s network handled over 16 million passengers in February, 6.4% more than in the same month in 2018. The total number of travellers came to precisely 16,258,832, of which 16,202,154 were commercial passengers with 10,561,910 on international flights, 6.3% more than in February 2018, and 5,640,244 on domestic flights, up by 7.1%.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport had the highest number of passengers in February at 4,149,648, which is a 5.9% increase over the same month in 2018. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 3,268,339 (+7.7% more); Gran Canaria with 1,125,524 (no change with respect to last year); Málaga-Costa del Sol with 1,052,194 (+9.2%); Tenerife Sur with 953,642 (+2.7%); Palma de Mallorca with 896,042 (+14.6%); Alicante-Elche with 782,565 (+9.9%) and Cesar Manrique-Lanzarote with 552,120 (+0.9%).

In the first two months of the year passenger traffic rose by 6.7% with a total of 32,842,032 passengers going through the airports in Aena’s network.

Operations

As for the number of operations, there were 154,259 aircraft movements in Aena’s airport network in February, 8.6% more than in the same month in the previous year.

The airport with the highest number of movements was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with a total of 30,187 (+3.8%), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 22,696 flights (+6.3%); Gran Canaria with 10,361 (-0.4%); Málaga-Costa del Sol with 8,140 (+6.1%); Palma de Mallorca with 7,934 (+10%); Tenerife Sur with 5,975 (+4.2%); and Alicante-Elche with 5,645 (+9%).

In January and February 2019 the number of operations increased by 8.3% with respect to the same period in 2018 with a total of 313,817 flights at the airports in Aena’s network.

Freight

In February 78,390 tons of freight were carried which is a 5.9% increase compared to the same month in 2018.

The four airports with the highest freight traffic were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 41,059 tons (6.8%); Zaragoza with 13,986 tons (+13.4%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 12,357 tons (+4.7%); ; and Vitoria with 4,914 tons (+2.5%).

In the first two months of the year freight traffic handled by the airports in Aena’s network increased by 4.9% up to 155,717 tons.
