The airports in Aena’s network handled over 28.3 million passengers in August, 3.4% more than in the same month in 2017.
28,346,796 passengers went through the airports in the network in August. 20,453,999 of them were on international flights, 1.4% more than in the same period in 2017, and 7,818,639 on domestic flights, up by 8.9%.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport has had the best August in its history and also the highest number of passengers in the network at 5,387,285, which is an 8.8% increase over August 2017. It is followed by Barcelona-El Prat with 5,149,419 (+4.2%) and Palma de Mallorca with 4,228,664 (+1.2%).
From January to August passenger traffic in the airports in Aena’s network grew by 5.6% up to a total of 177,862,431 travellers.
Operations
As for the number of operations, there were 231,499 aircraft movements in Aena’s airport network in August, 4.4% more than in the same month in the previous year.
The airport with the highest number of operations during this period was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 35,606 flights (+6.7%), followed by Barcelona-El Prat with 32,060 (+1.8%) and Palma de Mallorca with 29,806 (+2.9%).
In the first eight months of the year the number of operations in the airports in Aena’s network grew by 5.6% up to a total of 1,542,014 movements.
Freight
In August 82,319 tons of freight were carried which is a 2.6% increase compared to the same period in 2017.
In August the airports with the highest freight traffic were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 41,330 tons (+6.8%), Zaragoza with 15,934 tons (-2.2%) and Barcelona-El Prat with 13,827 tons (+3.5%).
From January to August, airports in Aena’s network as a whole handled 648,078 tons of freight, up by 11.5% over the same months in 2017.
