The airports in Aena’s network handled over 27.2 million passengers in June, 5.9% more than in the same month in 2018. The total number of travellers came to precisely 27,275,553, of which 27,199,636 were commercial passengers with 19,263,242 on international flights, 4.4% more than in June 2018, and 7,936,394 on domestic flights, up by 9.9%.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport had the highest number of passengers in June at 5,569,296, which is a 9.7% increase over the same month in 2018. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 5,105,755 (6.2% more); Palma de Mallorca with 3,853,876 (+2.1%); Málaga-Costa del Sol with 2,054,706 (+6.4%); Alicante-Elche, with 1,538,176 (+8.8%); Ibiza with 1,179,537 (+1.3%); Gran Canaria with 979,830 (-0.6%); Tenerife Sur with 820,662 (+3.9%); Valencia with 780,180 (+12.8%); and Seville with 666,903 (+23.2%).
In the first half of 2019 passenger traffic rose by 5.7% with a total of 127,916,544 passengers going through the airports in Aena’s network.
Operations
As for the number of operations, there were 225,853 aircraft movements in Aena’s airport network in June, 3% more than in the same month in the previous year.
The airport with the highest number of movements was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with a total of 37,982 (+6.8%), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 32,077 flights (+2.4%); Palma de Mallorca with 26,376 (-2.4%); Málaga-Costa del Sol with 14,500 (+4.6%); Ibiza with 10,429 (+0.7%); Alicante-Elche with 10,049 (+6.1%); Gran Canaria with 9,470 (-5.5%); Valencia with 6,922 (+0.1%); Tenerife Norte with 6,311 (+2.4%); Seville with 5,496 (+10.2%); and Tenerife Sur with 5,123 (+3.3%).
In the first six months of 2019, the airports in Aena’s network operated 1,125,242 aircraft for departures and arrivals which is a 4.8% rise over the same period in the previous year.
Freight
77,148 tons of freight were carried last month, which is a 2.1% decrease in cargo compared to June 2018.
By contrast, in the cumulative figure for the year from January to June 2019, 499,561 tons of freight were handled at all the airports in Aena's network, 3.7% more than in the first six months of 2018.
The four airports with the highest freight traffic in June were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 44,046 tons (+6.7%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 13,498 tons (-9.2%); Zaragoza with 7,428 tons (-21.9%); and Vitoria with 5,416 tons (+2.3%).
