The airports in Aena’s network handled over 26.2 million passengers in September, 4.6% more than in the same month in 2017.
26,240,750 passengers went through the airports in the network in September. 18,782,723 of them were on international flights, 3% more than in the same period in 2017, and 7,396,328 on domestic flights, up by 9%.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport had the highest number of passengers in the network at 5,203,289 passengers, which is a 8.2% increase over the same month in 2017. It is followed by Barcelona-El Prat with 4,843,692 (+4.4%) and Palma de Mallorca with 3,760,866 (+3.3%).
From January to September passenger traffic in the airports in Aena’s network grew by 5.5% up to a total of 204,103,181 passengers.
Aircraft movements
As for the number of operations, there were 220,507 aircraft movements in Aena’s airport network in September, 6.5% more than in the same month in the previous year.
The airport with the highest number of movements during this period was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 36,155 flights (+6.6%), followed by Barcelona-El Prat with 31,611 (+3.4%) and Palma de Mallorca with 26,663 (+5.5%).
In the first nine months of 2018 the number of operations in the airports in Aena’s network grew by 5.7% up to a total of 1,762,521 movements.
Freight
In September almost 87,148 tons of freight were carried which is a 7.3% increase compared to the same period in 2017.
In September the airports with the highest freight traffic were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 43,395 tons (+11.9%), Zaragoza with 16,908 tons (+5.8%) and Barcelona-El Prat with 14,818 tons (+6.7%).
From January to September, airports in Aena’s network as a whole handled 735,226 tons of freight, up by 11% over the same months in 2017.
