The airports of the Aena Group (comprising the 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) closed the month of May 2025 with 34,482,916 passengers, 3.8% more than in the same month of 2024; they handled 297,321 aircraft movements, 2.6% more than in 2024; and they transported 126,911 tonnes of freight, 5.4% more than last year.
In cumulative terms, from January to May 2025, 145,137,887 passengers passed through Aena Group airports (4.9% more than in 2024); 1,267,468 aircraft movements were recorded (+3%); and 593,584 tonnes of freight were transported, 6.1% more than in the same period of 2024.
Aena Airports in Spain
The airports of the Aena network in Spain closed May with 29,226,368 passengers, 3.3% more than in the same month of 2024; they handled 247,288 aircraft movements, 3.9% more than in 2024; and they transported 113,631 tonnes of freight, up 4.8% on last year.
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in May with 5,734,394, growth of 1% compared with the same month last year. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 5,176,437 (+3.7% compared with 2024); Palma de Mallorca, with 3,822,704 (-0.5%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,584,681 (+8.7%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,850,620 (+5.8%); Gran Canaria, with 1,157,213 (+5.7%); Valencia, with 1,053,602 (+7.2%), and Ibiza, which, with 1,031,136 passengers, maintained exactly the same volume of traffic as in May 2024, with no percentage change.
Last month, the number of passengers at Seville Airport broke all-time records. In addition, a record number of passengers was recorded in a month of May at 23 infrastructures: Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Gran Canaria, Valencia, Ibiza, Tenerife Sur, Sevilla, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Bilbao, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Fuerteventura, Menorca, Reus, Asturias, Zaragoza, Melilla, Vitoria, La Gomera, Badajoz, Córdoba and Son Bonet.
In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in May was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 36,641 (+0.8% compared with 2024), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 33,131 flights (+4.9%); Palma de Mallorca, with 27,190 (+0.3%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 17,977 (+10%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, 11,697 (+6.2%) and Gran Canaria, with 11,080 landings and take-offs (+2.2%).
In the fifth month of 2025, an absolute record of movements was broken at the airports of Sevilla and Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, and it was the busiest May on record in terms of operations at 18 infrastructures: Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Palma de Mallorca, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, Gran Canaria, Ibiza, Tenerife Sur, Sevilla, César Manrique-Lanzarote, Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, Fuerteventura, Menorca, La Palma, Federico
García Lorca Granada-Jaén, Melilla, La Gomera, Logroño and Son Bonet.
With regard to freight traffic, in the fifth month of 2025, the airport with the highest freight volume was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 69,335 tonnes, 9.5% more than in the same month of 2024, making it the month of May with the most commercial freight traffic in the history of the Madrid infrastructure. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which recorded 17,457 tonnes (+10.5%), which also made it the month of May with the highest freight traffic at the Catalan airport facility. In third place is Zaragoza Airport, with 14,078 tonnes (-13.1%), and in fourth, Vitoria Airport with 6,066 tonnes (-3.7%).
Over the first five months of 2025, 120,118,113 passengers have passed through Aena airports in Spain (4.7% more than in 2024); 1,030,000 aircraft movements were recorded (+4.7%); and 529,952 tonnes of freight were transported, 5.4% more than in the same period of 2024.
Aena Brasil Airports
The 17 airports of Aena Brasil reached 3,655,872 passengers in May, 8.5% more than in the same month of 2024. 37,675 aircraft movements were carried out, a decrease of -4% compared with the same month in 2024, and 10,692 tonnes of freight were transported, up 17.1% compared with the same month last year.
The group of six ANB airports(1) closed the month of May with 1,299,501 passengers (+7.9%). Recife Airport reached 778,239 passengers (+2.4%). There were 12,239 flights (-3%), of which Recife managed 6,894 (-7.9%). And 5,489 tonnes of freight were moved (+14.6%), of which 4,165 tonnes corresponded to Recife Airport (+6%).
The BOAB group of eleven airports(2) recorded 2,356,371 passengers in May (+8.9% over the same month in 2024). Among them, Congonhas Airport stands out with 1,978,855 passengers (+9.2%). A total of 25,436 flights were handled (-4.5%), of which 17,946 (-7.4%) were at São Paulo airport. And 5,203 tonnes of freight were transported (+19.9%). At Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, 4,540 tonnes were handled, 29.8% more than in the same month of the previous year.
Up to May 2025, 18,289,098 passengers (+6%) have passed through Aena airports in Brazil; 184,863 aircraft movements were recorded (-5.3%); and 51,475 tonnes of freight were transported, 16.3% more than in the same period in 2024.
London Luton Airport
During the month of Mary, 1,600,676 passengers(3) passed through London Luton Airport's London facilities, 3.1% more than in the same month in 2024. 12,358 aircraft movements were carried out (-0.7%) and 2,588 tonnes of freight(4) were transported, 9.5% less than in 2024.
Between January and May 2025, 6,730,676 passengers were recorded(3) (+6%), 52,605 aircraft movements were handled (+2.3%) and 12,158 tonnes of freight were transported(4) (-3.8%).
