The airports of the Aena Group (comprising the 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) closed the first month of 2026 with 25,830,159 passengers, 3.3% more than in the same month of 2025; they handled 221,194 aircraft movements, 0.7% less than in 2025; and transported 115,876 tonnes of freight, 7.1% more than in the same month of last year.
Growth slows in the traffic of Spanish airports
Airports in Aena’s network in Spain closed January with 20,315,707 passengers, 2.6% more than in the same month of 2025. However, this represents a much lower increase compared to the 6.1% growth recorded between January 2025 and January 2024.
This pattern is also seen in the number of operations, which totaled 173,431 in January—0.6% fewer movements than in 2025, whereas between January 2025 and January 2024 they had grown by 5.2%.
At 5,379,569 passengers, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in January, representing growth of 3.5% compared to this month last year. It was followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 3,806,895 (+3% compared to 2025); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 1,440,294 (+5.1%); Gran Canaria, with 1,398,924 (+2.1%); Tenerife Sur, with 1,275,134 (-1%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,106,689 (+4.7%) and Palma de Mallorca, with 882,638 passengers, a fall of 3% compared to January 2025.
In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in January was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 34,658 (+2.5% compared to 2025), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 24,537 flights (-0.2%); Gran Canaria, with 12,349 (+1.5%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 10,830 (+3.9%); Palma de Mallorca, with 8,496 (-1.9%); Tenerife Sur, with 8,409 (-3.5%) and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 7,521 landings and take-offs (+5.6%).
In terms of freight traffic, the Aena network as a whole recorded the best month of January in its history. By airport, the one that recorded the highest freight volume was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 62,538 tonnes, 6.3% more than in the same month of 2025, which means it was also the month of January with the highest freight traffic in its history. It was followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which recorded 15,611 tonnes (+16.5%) and a monthly record; Zaragoza Airport, with 13,868 tonnes (+19.6%); and Vitoria, with 5,416 tonnes (-5.5%).
Aena Brasil Airports
The 17 airports of Aena Brasil reached 4,341,524 passengers in January, 6.7% more than in the same month of 2025. 38,558 aircraft movements were carried out, a decrease of 1.2% compared to the same month in 2025, and 11,447 tonnes of freight were transported, up 13.9% compared to the same month last year.
The group of six ANB airports(1) closed the month of January with 1,773,560 passengers (+7.7%). Among them, Recife Airport stands out with 1,015,692 passengers (+7.1%). There were 14,769 flights (+1.7%), of which Recife managed 7,858 (-3.6%). And 6,532 tonnes of freight were moved (+18.5%), of which 4,966 tonnes corresponded to Recife Airport (+9.9%).
The BOAB group of eleven airports(2) recorded 2,567,964 passengers in January (+5.9% over the same month of 2025). Among them, Congonhas Airport stands out with 2,198,305 passengers (+7.2%). A total of 23,789 flights were handled (-2.9%), of which 18,114 (-0.5%) were at São Paulo Airport. And 4,916 tonnes of freight were transported (+8.3%). At Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, 4,288 tonnes were handled, 7.4% more than in the same month of the previous year.
London Luton Airport
During the month of January, 1,172,928 passengers(3) passed through London Luton Airport's facilities, 4% more than in the same month in 2025. 9,205 aircraft movements were handled (+0.3%) and 935 tonnes of freight(4) were transported, 59.1% less than in 2025.
