Aena Group airports exceed 41 million passengers in August

The airports of the Aena Group (comprising the 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, London Luton Airport, Leeds Bradford Airport and 17 airports in Brazil) closed the month of August 2026 with 41,381,404 passengers, 4.7% more than in the same month in 2025; they handled 330,526 aircraft movements, 4.5% more than in 2025; and transported 116,723 tonnes of freight, 5.7% less than in 2025.

In cumulative terms, from January to August 2026, 272,247,393 passengers passed through Aena Group airports (4.1% more than in 2025); 2,308,307 aircraft movements were recorded (+3.7%); and 979,844 tonnes of freight were transported, 1.2% less than in the same period of 2025.

Aena Airports in Spain

The airports of the Aena network in Spain recorded 34,890,784 passengers in August, 4.7% more than in the same month of 2025; they handled 273,292 aircraft movements, 4.3% more than in August 2025; and they transported 104,356 tonnes of freight, 5.2% less than in August last year.

From January to August 2026, the airports of the Aena network in Spain have recorded a total of 225,543,599 passengers, (4.1% more than in 2025). 1,890,414 aircraft movements were carried out (+4.4%) and 878,168 tonnes of freight were transported, 1.8% more than in the same period in 2025.

At 6,544,815 passengers, Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in August, representing a growth of 4.8% compared to this month last year. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 5,933,007 (+4.6% compared to 2025); Palma de Mallorca, with 4,808,295 (+2.3%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 3,050,841 (+6.6%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 2,337,378 (+11.4%); Ibiza, with 1,519,201 (+2.5%); Gran Canaria, with 1,334,497 (+3.1%); Valencia, with 1,298,710 (+10.1%) and Tenerife Sur, with 1,064,586 passengers (-4.2%).

In terms of operations, the airport with the most movements in August was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 39,606 (+6.5% compared to 2025), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 34,772 flights (+4.4%); Palma de Mallorca, with 32,324 (+2.8%); Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 20,312 (+5.3%); Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 14,069 (+11.7%); Ibiza, with 13,643 (+5.2%); and Gran Canaria, with 12,038 landings and take-offs (+5.8%).

With regard to freight traffic, the airport with the highest cargo volume in August was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 59,695 tonnes, 12% less than in the same month of 2025. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, which recorded 17,588 tonnes (+8.5%); Zaragoza Airport, with 15,895 tonnes (+4.8%); and Vitoria, with 5,138 tonnes (+8.7%).

Aena Brasil Airports

The 17 airports of Aena Brasil reached 3,981,410 passengers last August, 3.2% more than in the same month of 2025. 39,983 aircraft movements were carried out, an increase of 6.5% compared to the same month in 2025, and 10,285 tonnes of freight were transported, 7.3% less than in the same month last year.

The group of six ANB airports (1) closed the month of August with 1,433,928 passengers (+2.2%). Among them, Recife Airport stands out with 811,536 passengers (-2.7%). There were 12,843 flights (+4.7%), of which Recife managed 6,643 (-2.1%). And 5,905 tonnes of freight were moved (+2.5%), of which 4,095 tonnes corresponded to Recife Airport (-4.8%).

The BOAB group of eleven airports(2) recorded 2,547,482 passengers in August (+3.7% compared to the same month in 2025). Among them, Congonhas Airport stands out with 2,151,361 passengers (+3.5%). A total of 27,140 flights were handled (+7.4%), of which 18,280 (+0.9%) were at São Paulo airport. And 4,380 tonnes of freight were transported (-17.9%). At Congonhas Airport in São Paulo, 3,428 tonnes were handled, 26.8% less than in the same month of the previous year.

Between January and August 2026, 30,943,958 passengers passed through Aena airports in Brazil (+3.8%); 298,589 operations were recorded (+0.2%); and 87,300 tonnes of freight were transported, 2.6% more than in the same period in 2025.

London Luton Airport

During the month of August, 1,947,898 passengers(3) passed through London Luton Airport's facilities, 7.8% more than in the same month of 2025. 12,867 aircraft movements were handled (+2%) and 2,082 tonnes of freight(4) were transported, 18.2% less than in 2025.

Between January and August 2026, 12,574,846 passengers(3) were recorded (+6.1%), 92,902 aircraft movements were handled (+2.4%) and 14,375 tonnes of freight(4) were transported (-27.8%). The decrease in freight traffic is due to the night-time closure of the runway for resurfacing works.

Leeds Bradford Airport

Leeds Bradford Airport, which has been integrated into the Aena Group since 7 May of this year, recorded 561,312 passengers in August, 3.2% more than in the same month of 2025, and handled 4,384 aircraft movements (+4.2%).

Between January and August 2026, 3,184,990 passengers (+3.2%) have passed through its facilities and 26,402 operations have been handled (+3.1%).
