Burgos Airport, located four kilometres north-east of the city opened its doors to commercial airline operations on 3 July 2008. The new facilities make it possible to respond to air traffic demand in line with appropriate levels of safety and quality.

The airport occupies an area of almost 230 hectares in size next to the old aerodrome facilities and has a new airfield for aircraft operations and a new terminal area, which includes a new passenger terminal building with parking facilities and a multi-service building. Provision has been made in the project for the adaptation of the airport access routes, as well as other measures involving both the airport infrastructure and air navigation facilities, giving the airport enough capacity to meet forecast air transport needs.
