Introduction

Leon Airport opened in June 1999. It is located on Virgen del Camino air station, six kilometres from the provincial capital. Currently, it is an aerodrome used jointly as a military base and an airport open to civil traffic.

To meet the growing passenger demand, in October 2005 the runway and aircraft parking apron were extended and an ILS/I landing system was installed to improve operability under adverse weather conditions. In December 2007 the runway was extended again. Finally, in october 2010 the new terminal building was opened.

In 2015, the airport dealt with 38,707 passengers and 1,885 aircraft operations.
