Introduction

Burgos airport, situated four kilometres northeast of the capital, began commercial aircraft traffic operations on 3 July 2008. The new facilities will enable it to meet the air traffic demand whilst ensuring appropriate security and quality standards.

The airport occupies an area of almost 230 hectares in size beside the old aerodrome facilities and has a new airfield for aircraft operations and a new terminal area, which includes a new passenger terminal building with parking facilities and a multi-service building. Provision has been made in the project for the adaptation of the airport access routes, as well as other measures involving both the airport facilities and the air navigation facilities, giving the airport enough capacity to meet predicted air transport needs.

In 2016, the airport handled 4,682 passengers and 1,750 aircraft movements.
