Alicante-Elche Airport is situated 9 kilometres southwest of the capital, in the municipality of Elche, in one of the most dynamic, up and coming business and economic zones on the Mediterranean coast. The essential role played by tourism is reflected in the percentage of international passenger flights that this airport handles and which make up around the ninety percent of the total. Most of these passengers are from the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Norway. Scheduled domestic traffic has also increased in recent years. Barcelona, Madrid y Mallorca are the three most popular destinations.

In 2017, Alicante-Elche Airport handled 15,048,240 passengers, 101,410 flight operations and 4,032 tonnes of cargo.
