Catalan edition of the first volume of “A history of Barcelona airports”.

Barcelona and its close ties with air travel go hand in hand. Remember that in this city, in 1910, Julien Mamet made the first flight with a heavier-than-air craft in Spain. Later, a group of daring pioneers would fly between Europe, Africa and South America, also from Barcelona, in what would later become one of the first airlines.

The support and enthusiasm of the Catalan people for air travel would lead to the emergence of a strong aircraft industry, which exported a high volume of engines to other countries. It was soon necessary to create airport infrastructure that would serve these early aircraft on their routes to and from Barcelona. The Canudas aerodrome and the important airfield established by Talleres Hereter came into existence to meet that need.

But the biggest push would come from the 1992 Olympic Games. Major airport development work was carried out for this event, and now the infrastructure is ready to meet the optimistic projections for air transport in the next few years.
