Valencia was linked to aviation very early, back in 1909, when engineers Olivert and Brunet attempted their first flight in Paterna in an aeroplane they built themselves. That event has been considered as the start of aviation in Spain.

That is why it seems appropriate that this city's airport should have a work that includes each and every one of those aeronautical events, revealing the initiatives carried out by the local and national authorities that, together with the support of Valencian society itself, made it possible for Manises airport to open to civil traffic in 1933.
