The origins of Jerez de la Frontera Airport can be traced back to around 1937, when levelling work began on the grounds of the property known as "Dehesa de Angulo", where, apart from establishing the first aerodrome, the Transformation School was founded to provide advanced pilot training.

Since it was opened to civil traffic in 1946, and later to international passenger traffic, the airport has grown continuously. According to the forecasted data, it is expected to exceed 1.5 million passengers in 2007.

To face this challenge, the Master Plan for this airport defines the main lines of development so that the facilities match the expected growth. In this respect, the planned projects include the following actions: extension of the passenger terminal, the runway and the construction of a new cargo terminal.

All this development, and especially the passionate beginnings of aeronautics in the area going back to ballooning, as well as the continuous effort and progress by the authorities, professionals and local people to make the airport into a symbol of modernity and pride for Cadiz inhabitants are collected in these pages and illustrated with many photographs and other graphic materials.
