Few cities have played such a crucial role as Vitoria in the development of Spanish aeronautics. Lacua was the site of the city's first airport, back in the 1920s, and played host to popular air festivals and the first civil aviation school, promoted by French pilot Leonce Garnier.

Lacua Aerodrome was subsequently transferred to Zalburu, which received its first Iberia route in 1937, Vitoria being the last port of call on the Tetuán-Seville-Cáceres-Salamanca-Burgos run. However, nearly another half century went by before Foronda became the definitive site of Vitoria's airport, linking the city to the rest of the world.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of this airport, AENA, in collaboration with the Official College of Spanish Aeronautical Engineers, decided to publish this book that presents anecdotes, images and details of the development of this aeronautical facility. The Lacua Aerodrome has become a flagship for international goods transport logistics and a source of pride for the people of Vitoria who contributed to its development by their efforts.
