In July, the airports belonging to the Aena network registered more than 29.4 million passengers, with an increase of 3.4%

The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport is the top one in the network with respect to the number of passengers, with more than 5.9 million (+7.5%), followed by the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with more than 5.3 million (+3.8%)

The movement of aircraft increased in July by 1.7%, with almost 241,000 operations

Freight traffic grew by 5.1%, with more than 88,300 tonnes

 

The airports belonging to the Aena network registered more than 29.4 million passengers in July; 3.4% more than for the same month in 2018. Specifically, the total figure of travellers was 29,409,649. Of those, 29,329,084 were commercial passengers, 20,798,922 of whom took international flights, 1.6% more than in July 2018; and 8,530,162 of whom caught national flights, 7.9% more.

The Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport registered the greatest number of passengers in July, with 5,944,835, representing an increase of 7.5% on the same month in 2018. This was followed by the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 5,360,997 (3.8% more); Palma de Mallorca, with 4,207,218 (-0.6%); Malaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,228,460 (+3.8%); Alicante-Elche, with 1,721,537 (+7.7%); Ibiza, with 1,332,411 (0.5%); Gran Canaria, with 1,068,941 (-4.4%); Tenerife Sur, with 891,912 (+0.1%) and Valencia, with 858,784 (+8.5%).

During the first seven months of 2019, passenger traffic grew by 5.2%, making a total of 157,326,193 travellers in the airports belonging to the Aena network.

Operations

As far as the number of operations are concerned, in July, the Aena network of airports registered a total of 240,896 movements of aircraft, 1.7% more than in the same month of the previous year.

The airport with the greatest number of movements was the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with a total of 38,973 (+5.1%) followed by the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 33,232 flights (+2%); Palma de Mallorca, with 28,719 (-3.7%); Malaga-Costa del Sol, with 15,887 (+2.5%); Ibiza, with 12,242 (-3.2%); Alicante-Elche, with 11,066 (+5.4%); Gran Canaria, with 10,196 (-4.8%); Valencia, with 7,436 (+4.8%) and Tenerife Norte, with 6,777 (+2.6%).

During the first seven months of 2019, the Aena network of airports operated 1,366,138 movements —between departures and arrivals— representing an increase of 4.2% on the same period last year.

Freight

In July, 88,393 tonnes of freight were transported, representing an increase of 5.1% on the same month in 2018.

The four airports that registered the greatest freight traffic were the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas, with 46,311 tonnes (+8.4%); the Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 15,756 tonnes (+1.8%); Zaragoza, with 12,826 tonnes (+3%), and Vitoria, 6,282 tonnes (+16.7%).

From January to July, 587,955 tonnes of freight were handled by the airports in the Aena network, representing a growth of 3.9% on the first seven months of 2018.
