The airports in Aena’s network handled over 24.6 million passengers in October, a 1.5% increase

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport is the network leader by number of passengers at more than 5.4 million (+5.7%), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with over 4.6 million (+2.3%)

Aircraft movements were up by 0.9% in the network in October with more than 210,000 operations

Freight traffic grew by 5.8% to around 106,000 tons

The airports in Aena’s network handled over 24.6 million passengers in October, 1.5% more than in the same month in 2018. The total number of travellers came to precisely 24,698,304, of which 24,639,601 were commercial passengers with 17,278,680 on international flights, 0.5% more than in October 2018, and 7,360,921 on domestic flights, up by 4.1%.

Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport had the highest number of passengers in October at 5,487,159, which is a 5.7% increase over the same month in 2018. It is followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 4,645,511 (2.3% more); Palma de Mallorca with 2,924,054 (-2.1%); Málaga-Costa del Sol with 1,873,246 (+0.6%); Alicante-Elche with 1,427,490 (+5.8%); and Gran Canaria with 1,087,391 (-8.5%).

In the first ten months of 2019, passenger traffic rose by 4.5% with a total of 238,641,052 passengers going through the airports in Aena’s network.

Operations

As for the number of operations, there were 210,240 aircraft movements in Aena’s airport network in October, 0.9% more than in the same month in the previous year.

The airport with the highest number of movements was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with a total of 37,297 (+2.1%), followed by Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 30,786 flights (+0.6%); Palma de Mallorca with 21,586 (-4.7%); Málaga-Costa del Sol with 13,512 (-1.6%); and Gran Canaria with 10,506 (-6.3%).

Between January and October 2019, the airports in Aena’s network operated 2,033,166 aircraft for departures and arrivals which is a 3.2% rise over the same period in the previous year.

Freight

Last month 105,934 tons of freight were carried which is a 5.8% increase compared to October 2018.

The four airports with the highest freight traffic were Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas with 53,845 tons (+10.2%); Zaragoza with 20,903 tons (+7%); Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat with 17,308 tons (-2.7%); and Vitoria with 6,213 tons (+8.3%).

From January to October, 870,076 tons of freight was handled at the airports in Aena’s network, which represents an increase of 4% with respect to the first ten months of 2018.
