Research and Development Centre
System quality control before implementation in the different centres.
SACTA: Research and Development Centre
The research and development centre (CED) was created following the implementation of the SACTA in all the regional directorates. Its purpose is to test the reliability of the different versions of the system before their installation in the control centres, to ensure the quality and behaviour of the SACTA system.
In the CED, the personnel in the engineering departments of the automation division perform functional, integration, load and stability tests. These are used to evaluate new developments or new architectures of the physical computer equipment that is going to update the system.
The CED uses the complete capacity of the SACTA system and its configuration can be easily adapted to the requirements of the environment in which it is to be tested.
In order to do this, the computer and communications networks installed in the CED simulate the environments for a maximum of four control centres simultaneously. The equipment is interconnected through structured wiring hubs with a configuration that is easily changed. Virtual LANs that are distributed throughout the electronic network are used to make it easier to create environments without needing to physically change the equipment or the wiring.
They also use an entire environment of dynamic simulation with two pseudo-pilot positions and a support system to create simulated exercises and sessions.
The sector control units (UCS) used by the CED-SACTA are of the following types:
- 4 FOCUCS UCS
- 5 simplified UCS
- 2 UCS ECA equipped with ADS (automatic dependent surveillance) and a data link
- 9 VICTOR positions to control simplified towers
In addition to its function as a testing ground for the SACTA system, the CED can be used for a whole range of other functions, including the following:
- Off-line load testing
- Validation of European projects
- Support for real-time simulations
- Testing other systems, such as REDAN
- Defining experimental projects
- Providing training for Aena technicians and for other countries.
